Kensey Foods
Appointment of Jelly Associates by Kensey Foods : Samworth BrothersJelly Associates were appointed as professional quantity surveyors to manage all financial and contractual aspects of a £7.80 million extension to the existing Kensey Foods factory in Launceston, Cornwall which is part of the Samworth Brothers group.
The project was constructed whilst the existing factory continued to produce savories, puddings and dessert products maintaining the high standard of food hygiene essential in the modern food industry. Links were established between new and old factories at various levels including an underground tunnel to take production lines between the new and existing buildings.
The new factory included new ovens and blast freezers to cook and process savories and puddings. Consequently the project was involved in many aspects of the food industry including handling raw ingredients before passing through high temperature oven installations and into high care food areas involving air temperature, humidity and air quality control of the highest degree.
Jelly Associates obtained competitive quotations for the project, dealt with all contractual documentation and the appointment of a principal contractor. They managed the financial and contractual control of the project throughout including working closely with Kensey Foods accountants to produce a capital allowances document to allow Kensey Foods to maximize the tax benefits available on the new plant and machinery.
The factory was opened in October 2006.
