Dalehead Corsham
Appointment of Jelly Associates by Dalehead Corsham : Tulip LimitedJelly Associates were appointed as professional quantity surveyors to manage all financial and contractual aspects of a £12.00 million extension which more than doubled the size of the existing Dalehead Foods factory in Corsham near Bath, Somerset which is part of Tulip Limited.
The project was constructed in three phases in order to achieve the requirements of the client. Refurbishment of a large section of the existing factory formed the third phase once the client had moved in to the new extension. The refurbishment included new ovens and blast freezers to cook and process ham joints exclusively for Waitrose Ltd. The project involved installations within a working factory for handling raw ingredients before passing through new high temperature oven installations and then into blast freezers in high care food areas involving air temperature, humidity and air quality control of the highest degree.
Jelly Associates obtained competitive quotations for the project, dealt with all contractual documentation and the appointment of a principal contractor for phases 1 and 2. For the last phase working within the existing building it was decided that a sufficiently good relationship had been developed between the client and their design team and the various specialist subcontractors to allow this last phase to be project managed by Jelly Associates working closely with a client appointed engineer working as a site based project manager and with Dalehead Foods acting as the principal contractor.
This method was so successful that, towards the end of phase 3, when a major fire struck part of the existing factory away from the building works, the client and the insurers were completely satisfied that the same team and method of building procurement could be used to carry out the £2.00 million reconstruction work required.
The factory was opened in October 2007 by the Chief Executive of Waitrose Ltd.
